Phillip Island, the self-styled home of Australian motorsport, is steeped in motor racing tradition, with the first car races having been held there on public roads in the 1920s. The first motorcycle races took place in 1931 and a permanent track was built in 1956.

The beautiful Phillip Island circuit on the Bass Straight, off the coast of Victoria in Australia, is one of the most iconic and exciting venues in world motorsport. WorldSBK™ first raced at Phillip Island in 1990, just after the first MotoGP™ visit in 1989. The Phillip Island circuit is blessed with breathtaking scenery and beautiful ocean views and, as one of the fastest, most fluid, tracks on the calendar.

Balda’s thought

It is my favorite track, besides Mugello. It is a spectacular long circuit, I hope the dates will change soon because I would like to race there in spring-summer; unfortunately at the moment we go in the autumn and we always find very critical weather conditions, it is very cold and windy. It is an incredible track first of all because of the amazing view; after the straight it seems to go downhill into the ocean. The really fast corners are really beautiful, there are various slopes and the track is very narrow and that’s why we need some guts.
