ARAGON ROUND | SUPERPOLE & RACE 1

It was a day to remember for the Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha Team, who can make a toast on Saturday at Aragon.
In the first race of the season Lorenzo Baldassarri took his first victory in the category, after taking an equally fabulous pole position.

Day 2 at Aragon opened with Superpole, with Balda determined to get a good starting position. The Italian rider immediately showed his great talent, managing to put all the hard work he had done in the previous rounds into a single lap, and taking pole with a time of 1’52″706. An incredible time, as well as the new track record for the category. The final part of the session was another surprise for Balda, who crashed without consequences at turn nine.

Starting from pole Balda immediately moved into the leading positions, taking first place on the eighth lap.

In the second half of the race Lorenzo and Aegerter were able to gain some ground on the rest of the field, and were able to fight for the win in a crazy last lap: having taken the lead on the straight between turns 15 and 16, Balda lost control of his YZF-R6 as he entered in the last turn, but managed to avoid a crash with a tightrope walker manoeuvre, and still beat his rival on the straight.
For Balda this is obviously his first win of the year, and also in the category.

It was a great race, with a really exciting last lap. I almost crashed once in turn seven, then in the last one, where I made an incredible save: I thought I was already down, but somehow I managed to stay on the bike and win. Thanks a lot to the team for putting me in a position to take both pole and the win today“.
