It was a disappointing Saturday for the Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha Team, who took to the track today at Assen for the first of two races of the Dutch weekend.

In the morning the Superpole was held, to determine the starting grid. Balda, working with his teammate, was able to obtaining the 6th positions.

At 15.15 the race 1 lights went out. Balda got off to a positive start and was soon part of the leading group. On the third lap Lorenzo was riding through turn ten when, due to an unexpected slowdown of those ahead of him, he had to brake more than usual, losing the front and crashing. It was an unfortunate crash, which deprived the Italian rider of the chance to fight for victory again.

“I don’t have much to say about today. The feeling with the bike was really good and it improved a lot after the Superpole. Unfortunately, when I was fighting for the first positions, between turns 9 and 10 the rider in front of me slowed down inexplicably and, having to brake more than necessary, I crashed. Tomorrow is another day and I’m looking forward to race 2.”
